ENHANCING
PROSPECTS of Disadvantaged Groups of Citizens through Cooperation of
Municipalities and NGOs
The project has been implemented starting on 1st March 2005 and finishing on 28th February 2008. The chosen participants of the project had ten months to persuade the elected representatives of municipalities about the usefulness of their project for the citizens. During those ten months the resources of the project were used to finance the theoretical part of the course about the particularities of social work in a municipality as well as the practical training performed directly at the municipality offices that willingly took part in the project. The most municipalities taking part in the project were from the Prešov region (24) and the Košice region (22). On 29th June 85 attendants received their diplomas in token of their successful graduation.
20 months after finishing the course there are more than 50 social workers operating at the municipalities. The partners of the project – the Advisory Board in Social Work and the Association for the Education of the Municipality acquired an accreditation from the Ministry of Education for an educational project “Social Worker of the Municipality”. One of the criteria for preparing other social workers in municipalities was fulfilled.
After finishing the course we focused on supporting social workers in municipalities, on the enforcement of the working position “social worker of the municipality” and on its promotion. We published a publication The Sea is of Drops – Best Practices for Municipal Social Work at the amount of 25 000 pieces. We sent it to all the municipal representatives.
Our partner in this
transnational cooperation was Consorzio META from Naples, Italy. The
project was financed by Community Initiative EQUAL
and the state budget at the total amount of almost 1 mil. €.
